With declining cases Covid-19 and widening vaccine coverage, things are finally looking up in the US. I am excited to be back to running long distances in groups, my favourite outdoor activity. While I used to run during the lockdown period in the last year, training and running in groups is far more joyful. I am training for a Half Marathon in the upcoming America’s Finest City run on the 15th of August.
As the worst of the pandemic is behind us in the United States, we can hope to resume many other in-person activities in the near future. However, as you are surely aware, several places in India are still grappling with a severe burden of Covid cases that has overwhelmed the health care system, upended livelihoods, and has led to thousands of avoidable deaths. This is the time when people in India need our help the most, and we must act.
Asha for Education has a track record of supporting NGOs working in the education sector for close to two decades. Being a fully volunteer-run organisation, Asha has minimal operating costs, and has consistently donated more than 95% of the collected funds to the partnering projects in India. The recipients of Asha’s assistance are mainly underserved communities in India. The pandemic and the various forms of lockdown that followed it has meant missed school hours – with few other ways for children’s physical and mental growth – besides the risk of infection and illness.
I have been a volunteer at Asha San Diego for more than a year and have developed a fair understanding of its functioning. Through the course of my training for the run, I wish to raise funds for supporting our partnering projects in India. Your help will ensure the good health of teachers, caregivers, and students associated with projects supported by Asha and resume their operations. I hope you would help me reach my target!
